As explained in my intro post, my goal is to attain financial independence by end of 2025, by which I would be 40. Call it mid-life crisis, but the idea of being able to do what I want (without being limited by salary) for the 2nd half of my life is very appealing to me.
My family has 3 little kids and living in the U.S. doesn’t offer great affordable health insurance options for early retirees. Given this, my walk-away total portfolio (excluding mortgage) is $4 Million. With a 4% safe withdrawal rate that would produce $160K/year in distributions, which should be more than sufficient to meet our family needs for a “Fat” FIRE lifestyle. We’ll have kids do piano lessons, extracurricular sports, purchase a gold-rated health exchange plan, go on a few vacations, and drive newish reliable cars.
